2020 was one of those years we learned to appreciate the essence of having gyms and fitness centers around us. I mean we got to learn the meaning of the saying ” you realize the value of something only when you lose it ” We used to take going to the gym for granted because we could just go out for a run or jog anytime or maybe walk to work, cycle to work and put that in as a daily fitness and workout routine. Now with COVID- 19 pandemic all those options vanished.
Fitness outlets were also shut down. Personally, with being at home 24/7 sitting around doing nothing, not even going out for grocery shopping for 3 whole months I gained a few kilos. I just found myself gaining weight and began to consider getting a few fitness and workout equipment suitable for apartment living. Here’s a list of what I have found useful so far.
Treadmill
We decided to get a treadmill as it was the easiest replacement option for our usual walks or jogs. Having a treadmill has been very convenient as we can now run at any time of the day and we don’t even worry about the weather. It’s now even easier to customize our workouts and reach our fitness goals. We got the Go Plus compact folding treadmill. we specifically got this one because of its size. This treadmill doesn’t take up much space and most importantly it’s foldable which meant that we could still save on space. It also has a security key to keep kids safe so that’s a plus in my book. It didn’t require any assembling, used it straight out of the box. It’s a decent machine with an affordable price. However, the downside is that it can only handle up to 220lbs weight capacity. We have since moved to a bigger one.
Ab roller
The Ab roller is one equipment that looks so simple and easy to use but in reality, it’s one of the most challenging workout tools I have ever used. You can use the ab roller for ab related workouts and to strengthen your core. I got mine on Amazon and it came with a free knee pad. Do your research before purchasing this roller. Watch a lot of videos on YouTube and see if it’s the right thing for you. I have been using it once a week for core strengthening because it’s not for the faint hearted.
Trampoline / Rebounder
The trampoline is mostly used by my husband for his aerobic exercises. It helps with leg workouts, endurance as well as have strengthening. The other reason we got the trampoline was to use for our son’s occupational therapy sessions. It helps him improve his balance, coordination and motor skills. Also jumping helps him get sensory input since he is Sensory seeking. If you don’t have space in your home you can get a foldable one. We got ours at Amazon. You can also find great rebounder fitness videos on YouTube or sign up for online classes.
Skipping Rope/ Jump rope
If you like cardio related workouts like me then consider getting a Jump rope. Just like running skipping is a great way to burn some calories. If you live in an apartment building consider the type of floors you have and your building’s noise policy before you buy this for inside workouts. I got a basic rope but you can get one that counts your jumps to keep track of your workouts or help you set targets.
Disk / core sliders
Sliders are a great and fun way of doing core and ab workouts. They produce way better results than crunches or any of those leg raise exercises. If you don’t want to spend any cent you can substitute with washcloths or any small towels. I got my pair of disk sliders on Amazon. These sliders can be used on multiple surfaces. I love that they do not cause any noise problems, which is a plus if you live in an appartment.
Exercise Mat
Exercise mats are an essential for home workouts. You will need one to help protect your floors and for you not to ruin your decor rugs and carpets. The exercise mat will be great for floor workouts such as stretching, ab workouts and any other workouts that require you to lie down or kneel. You can get a mat anywhere and if your budget is tight you can find something at the dollar store. I can’t vouch for its quality though.
As you have noticed most of these fitness and workout are ab or cardio workout equipment, it’s because my goal is centered on increasing strength and endurance as well as having killer abs. I’m going for that summer bikini body. Now here are more fitness and workout equipment you can consider
